MetaMask Considers Native Token Launch Amid Cautious Communication Strategy
MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay confirmed on May 14 that a native token remains under consideration, though no official plans have been finalized. The team emphasized transparency, stating any potential launch WOULD be announced exclusively through verified channels like the wallet interface or Consensys’ website to prevent scams.
Speculation about a token has surged despite MetaMask’s explicit warnings against fraudulent airdrop claims or direct messages. Finlay stressed the importance of controlled communication, noting that premature HYPE could endanger users. "Any official token would be unmistakably signaled through our core platforms," he said.
Parent company Consensys has previously used tokens to decentralize projects like Linea and MetaMask Snaps, but Finlay declined to confirm a timeline. The remarks come as regulatory clarity under potential US leadership changes sparks broader industry discussions about tokenization safety.
